David and Steven moved to France from the UK in December 2007, with the view of creating a calm and relaxing environment for those wishing to discover this less well known part of France, with its coast, mountains, rivers, châteaux, historic towns and villages. As followers of the Buddha's teachings we derive great joy and satisfaction in sharing the peace and tranquility found here and seeing our guests rest and unwind. We consider this is an ideal retreat from the hussle and bussle of modern life. As we have both worked in customer service environments, we pride ourselves in offering a personal and attentive service. Steven trained as a chef from the age of 16 and then worked in the family hotel/restaurant for a number of years. He prides himself and is regarded by others as a very accomplished chef who can provide excellent food, whatever the dietary requirement. As for Maison Blanc itself, it is one of the last surviving authentic stone farmhouses in Bassercles, and was once a small holding, like the surrounding farms. The oldest part of the house dates from 1756, and the Béarnaise barn situated in front of the house, existed well before the house!! In keeping with tradition, we keep a small amount of livestock with our pigs and goats!! We are both keen walkers and enjoy nothing more than getting out into the hills and exploring the beautiful countryside that surround us, which we hope you will discover for yourself. As we have our own woods, we are surrounded by an amazing diversity of wildlife, such as deer, wild boar, buzzards, red squirrels, wood peckers, cuckoos and too many varieties of birds to list here!! We are also keen amateur astronomers, and on a clear night we have been known to get our telescope out for guests. Without any light pollution, you can witness the unspoilt clarity of the milky way and the thousands of stars. We hope to welcome you here soon.
